Needle felting has grown in popularity over the last ten years, and there are now a number of amazing artists working in this medium, creating jewellery, sculptures, accessories and artwork with wool.
I had a go a few years ago and found it a very satisfying craft, as long as you don't stab yourself with the very sharp needles! But it takes real talent to be able to 'paint' with wool and create beautiful pictures such as those being showcased at Penarth's Handmade Market this Sunday by Jan & Pen.
I asked Jan how her preparation is going and how she spends her Christmas time....
For Christmas events, I'm busy building up our stock, making jewellery in lovely autumn colours, while husband Pen is making gift boxes and Christmas bookmarks. I'm also making even more Christmas decorations than last year!
What is your favourite thing about Christmas?
Decorating the Christmas tree. A lot of our decorations are hand made or brought back from holidays, so they have special memories.
Any festive hates?
Christmas cards in the shops in August!
How do you spend Christmas?
We'll be having a quiet family Christmas, probably eating far too much and then watching Christmas specials on the telly. If the weather is fine on Boxing Day, we'll take a walk around Roath Park Lake to try and burn off some of the calories.
What's the worst Christmas present you've ever received?
I don't think I've had any terrible presents but one year hubby bought me a saucepan. It was a joke (I think).
What's your favourite Christmas Song?
The Coventry Carol
