If you've joined us at a Little Otter Market over the last five years, you are sure to have discovered the beautiful work of Joe Farace aka Joe's Boxes.
I've always been a big fan of wood turning having visited my Grandad in his workshop after school and being in awe of his creations. It is an amazing skill to be able to take a huge clump of wood and carve it in to something tactile and beautiful.
Joe has this talent in abundance and his range of wooden boxes is stunning. The great thing about Joe's stall and the reason for its popularity over the years is that he sells a wide variety of high quality products. So if you don't have a huge budget - and lots of kids come to the markets to buy presents with their pocket money - you are sure to be able to afford a gift. Or if you are looking for a really special gift, check out the large wooden boxes on the stall.
I caught up with Joe and asked him how he and his partner Vassilia spend their Christmas...
What do you love about Christmas Joe?
After a busy Christmas Eve, up late delivering pressies (Ho! Ho! Ho!) what I love about Christmas is the smile on my grandchildren’s faces as the magic of it all unfolds.
How do you spend it?
Christmas Day these days is a quiet family day when our mums join us – it begins with the Christmas Eve service at our local church, a traditional dinner with all the trimmings finished in time for the Queen. We love seeing the grandchildren on Boxing Day, witnessing Christmas through their excited squeals and wide grins.
Probably a bottle of Old Spice aftershave I received just a few years ago … especially as I have a beard!
Favourite Christmas song?
I love most Christmas Carols .. my favourite is the one I am whistling at the time! I start whistling these in August .. and get told off cos it’s too early!
**Come and meet Joe and Vassilia at Penarth's Handmade Market this Sunday 18th November and Rhiwbina's Handmade Market on Sunday 25th November at the Memorial Hall, Rhiwbina.
